The Conservatives Face Backlash, Labour Disappoints, and Independents Rise – My Times Article Explores the Shift in Local Politics
As a proud independent candidate for Winslow in the Buckinghamshire council elections, I’m thrilled to share my recent article published in The Times on April 22, 2025.
In it, I dive into the growing frustration with mainstream politics and the exciting rise of independent candidates who put residents first. Below, I’ll give you a quick overview of the piece and why it matters for our community.
About the Article
In my Times article, I explore how voters are punishing the Conservatives for 14 years of perceived failures while expressing regret over Labour’s early missteps.
Local elections show Reform UK gaining traction but struggling to win seats, and the Liberal Democrats growing modestly. Yet, the real story is the public’s exhaustion with party politics.
Baby boomers, a key voting group, are disillusioned, and many are turning away from major parties or considering independents like me.
I highlight the success of independents, like the recent win in Syon & Brentford Lock, and showcase how we prioritise local issues—fighting over-development, fixing potholes, and securing infrastructure—without the constraints of party agendas.
A powerful example is Stuart Wilson, an independent leader in Buckinghamshire, who rallied cross-party support to challenge the closure of vital day centres, potentially saving these services.
With a record 461 independent candidates standing in the upcoming elections, voters are demanding conviction politicians who deliver results.
Why This Matters for Winslow
My article underscores why I’m running as an independent: to give Winslow a voice that fights for what’s best for you, free from broken promises and political posturing. I’m committed to putting our community first, just as independents are doing across the country.
